Carlo Florindo Semini was born in 1914 in Russo. He studied in the Ticino, in Rome and Naples, obtaining diplomas in composition, conducting, piano and as a teacher of singing at the Conservatorio di musica San Peitro a Majella in Naples. In 1947 he was made head of service, later (1966-1980) head of the orchestra and chamber music department of the Radio Svizzera Italiana. His many services to the musical life of his canton include teaching musical history at the Liceo cantonale Lugano (up to 1978), being inspector of the canton's teachers' training college and founding the "Jeunesses musicales" of the Ticino as well as various festivals and competitions.
