The Ortys Quartet first gathered in Geneva in 1993. Wishing to satisfy its public with a wide approach to music, the ensemble offers an eclectic repertoire, including classical as well as numerous contemporary pieces. The Ortys Quartet has premiered several works by Swiss composers. Over the past years, the ensemble has won prizes at the AMS competition (1995) and the Trapani competition (Italy, 1996). In 1998, the Ortys Quartet received the Swiss Embassy Award and made its debut at the Wigmore Hall (London). On the present recording the Ortys Quartet confronts the string quartet "Der Tod" by the Swiss composer Marc-André Rappaz with works of the international repertoire: "Ainsi la nuit" by Henri Dutilleux and "Métamorphoses nocturnes" by György Ligeti.
