The Zurich Vocal Quartet was formed in 1988 for a chamber music competition organized by the Migros Corporation. As a prize-winner, it was immediately engaged for a Swiss tour with the famous pianist and accompanist Irwin Gage. In the ten years since its inception, the Quartet has given concerts in the Zurich Tonhalle, in the Zurich concert cycle 'Friends of the Lied' and at the Arezzo Festival. The Zurich Vocal Quartet is primarily concerned with bringing to a wider audience the relatively seldom-performed repertoire of two- to four-part songs from the Classical, Romantic and Modern periods. On the present recording the Vocal Quartet presents works by the Swiss composers Theodor Fröhlich, Hermann Goetz and Hans Huber.

Theodor Fröhlich (1803-1836), Hermann Goetz (1840-1876), Hans Huber (1852-1921)

Zürcher VokalQuartett, Barbara Fuchs (Sopran), Anna Schaffner (Alt), Bernhard Hunziker (Tenor), Fabrice Raviola (Bariton), Hartwig Joerges und Georges Starobinski (Klavier).
